Jon Elliott President; Storm Water and Website
Jon is a retired with over 45 years of Engineering and IT leadership experience in Healthcare, Telecommunications, Product Development, and Financial Services industries. Jon and his wife Cathy moved from Denver, Colorado but originally hail from Kansas City and have been part of Kure Dunes since 2016. Jon holds multiple degrees in Vocal Music Performance, Electrical Engineering, and Business Administration from the University of Missouri and University of Kansas. His wife Cathy is a retired Speech Pathologist. Jon enjoys woodworking, good barbeque, playing guitar and singing, photography, fishing, and bicycle riding. Jon and Cathy have 3 grandchildren who live in nearby Kure Beach Villages whom they love to spoil.
Scott Beyrer VP; Clubhouse, Pool, Well Lot
Scott and his wife, Andrea, joined the Kure Dunes community in 2017. After living and raising two sons in Raleigh for over 20 years, they decided to pursue their dream of living at the beach and relocated to their forever home in KB. With over 30 years with the company, Scott continues to work for AT&T as the area operations manager. Andrea works as a teaching assistant at Island Montessori Charter School. The two of them enjoy all types of outdoor activities, especially their time on the water. They feel fortunate to have found such a wonderful neighborhood and look forward to serving the community for many years to come.
Suzanne Pio Secretary; Welcome Committee
Suzanne and her husband, John, moved to the Kure Dunes community in December 2019. They lived in Apex, NC for over 20 years and raised a daughter and son while there. Suzanne has worked for PPD/Thermo Fisher Scientific for over 30 years as a Project Manager/Director for Ophthalmology Clinical Trials and has also taken an active role in Island Women’s membership committee. Suzanne and John have enjoyed the slower pace of life after moving to Kure Beach and look forward to serving the community for many years.
Julie Farriss Treasurer
Julie and her husband Bill are longtime residents of KB and own their dream Lot on Sandman Drive. They raised two children on the beach and have been deeply connected to the community through service and friendships. Bill retired from the KBPD after serving as a Volunteer for 18 years. Julie retired from GSK after 27 years. Julie and Bill currently own and operate 4 businesses and multiple properties on and off the island. Julie has experience in management, sales, recruiting, training/instructor, and mentoring. She served on the board and in many leadership roles at Saint Paul’s UMC, Beachwalk HOA (social and welcome committee director) and South Hills Community HOA (Chas. WV). Julie is eager to serve the Kure Dunes Community in a role that fosters homeowner advocacy, autonomy, inclusion, and communication that helps to keep this great neighborhood thriving and in fellowship with one another.
Michael DavenportDirector; Governmental Liaison
Michael Davenport and his wife, Jill, and their children (four, total, two off now in college) have lived in Kure Dunes for over 20 years, and Michael has served on the Board for over 11 years. Michael was born on a military base in Stuttgart, Germany, then lived the itinerant youth of an army- and civilian-engineer’s child, with stints in the south, northeast, midwest and west coast. He is an insurance claims/coverage attorney, and has been practicing law for 26 years. He is licensed and active in North and South Carolina and California. Michael also sits on the Advisory Board of the First Fruit Ministry (a food kitchen), and he and Jill are founding Members of the Boards of Directors for the Island Montessori Charter School and the Island Montessori Preschool.
Jim Lucky Director; Architecture Committee
Jim and his wife Denise have owned a home in Kure Dunes since 2018, and have lived here full time since 2020. They moved to the Raleigh area from Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1988 and have lived in Cincinnati and Raleigh (2 times each) over the past 30 years. Jim has been in the Medical Device industry for 30+ years and currently works for Johnson & Johnson. Denise is a realtor (former RN) and works for Coldwell Banker. They have three boys, all married to wonderful spouses, and they have five granddaughters they love to spend time with! Jim is a member of the Island Men & Knights of Columbus and enjoys playing in a 50+ baseball league, golfing and home project’s Denise identifies for him. The Kure Dunes community is special, and Jim and Denise appreciate the welcoming environment.

Carla Chestnutt Director (Interim); Gazebo and Retention Pond
Carla and her husband John moved to Kure Dunes in June of 2017 as full time residents. Previously they lived in Raleigh, NC where they raised their two sons. Once they became empty nesters, they traded the city life for the beach life!! Carla worked for JCPenney Company as a buyer and district manager for over 15 years. She is an active member of Island women where she serves on the fundraising committee. Carla and John enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors especially playing pickleball!! They feel blessed to have found such a wonderful and welcoming neighborhood and look forward to serving the community in the years to come.

HOA Committees
Architecture Control Committee Chair - Jim Lucky
The Architecture Control Committee (ACC) is sponsored by the Board and is responsible for ensuring adherence to the Kure Dunes By-Laws and Architectural Guidelines related to exterior colors, construction, set-backs, and landscaping. The commmittee reports requests, variances, and non-compliance issues to the HOA Board on a monthly basis. This committee is ALWAYS looking for members with an engineering/architectural background and time. Welcome Committee Sponsor/Chair - Suzanne Pio
The Welcome Committee is responsible for welcoming new folks to the Kure Dunes Community and ensuring introduction and access to the Clubhouse, Pool, and Private beach access via parking passes and keys or key-codes. This committee is currently looking for members. Please contact the named Chair of the committee if you would like to assist with greeting our new neighbors!
Pool and Clubhouse Committee Sponsor/Chair - Scott Beyrer
The Pool and Clubhouse Committee is responsible for management of the Pool and Clubhouse furnishings. They are responsible for giving recommendations on replacement of unserviceable furniture, design of clubhouse, and other work as deemed necessary for the usage of these facilities. Let the chair know if you have pool/facility management experience and would like to help the committee.
Kindness Garden Committee Sponsor - Carla Chestnutt
The Kindness Garden Committee Chair is Cassi Bellezza. The Committee is responsible for design and maintenance of our Kindness Gardens at the Gazebo. Please contact Carla or Cassi if you would like be a part of this committee or if you would like to donate CAMA (Costal Area Management Act) acceptable plants to this effort!
Gazebo/Retention Pond Committee Sponsor/Chair - Carla Chestnutt
The Gazebo/Retention Pond committee is currently combined as one committee to manage the Gazebo Property (parking, restrooms, facility maintenance and dog poo patrol) and the Retention Pond (mosquito mitigation aeration and adherence to State and County stormwater runoff regulations). Please contact Carla if you would like be a part of this committee(s) or if you would like to assist or donate to the committee in any way! Civil Engineering skills are required for the Retention Pond; only TIME is available to help manage the Gazebo facility.
Website Design Committee Sponsor/Chair - Jon Elliott
The Website design committee reports to the Board to ensure that the Website meets the information needs of the Kure Dunes community. This committee also works with the Webmaster to develop and test content before production to the website.
